Series:
Name: Washington City - Urban Area Growth Boundares
Issue: 2021
Abstract: Combined incorporated city limit boundaries and unincorporated Urban Growth Areas (UGA) as defined by the Growth Management Act. Updates made in 2020 were made by collecting city limits and urban growth area boundary information from each of Washington's 39 counties, where available, and the Washington State Department of Transportation.  Layer updated to geo.wa.gov on May 17, 2021.
Purpose: This data set is a municipal information layer for the Washington State Department of Ecology and the Office of the Chief Information Officer-Geospatial Program.

Resource constraints:
General Constraints:
Limitations of use: This dataset is not meant to represent a legal survey boundary description but rather, follow and include, all ownership parcels within the visual boundaries of a City or UGA. Ecology does not in any way guarantee the accuracy of this information. City and Urban Growth Area boundaries can be changed at any time.

Supplemental information: 1. The Washington State Department of Ecology maintains City/Urban Growth Area boundaries to service its own geographic information business needs. 2. Boundaries follow current county/city maps and GIS layers provided or displayed by each county and are matched to the Washington State County Parcels layer boundaries defined by each county where possible. 3. This dataset is not meant to represent a legal survey boundary description but rather, follow and include, all ownership parcels within the visual boundaries of a City or UGA. 4. Ecology does not in any way guarantee the accuracy of this information. Individual cities/counties need to be contacted for the most up to date data. 5. City and Urban Growth Area boundaries can change at any time by cities and the counties. 6. Note that some of the rural counties do not have urban growth boundaries since they are not required by the Growth Management Act.

Data quality measure:
Measure description: Geometry edits made by Ecology GIS staff are based on visual inspection of City/UGA boundaries and county parcel boundaries except for Whitman County which does not have digital parcels. Where possible boundaries are matched to a county parcel boundary layer using a 10-100 pixel snap tolerance in ArcMap. Attribute item 'ORIGIN' contains specific boundry line edit information.

Process step:
Process description: Split urban growth subareas according to name in King, Pierce, and southwest Snohomish Counties.
Process rationale: King, Pierce, and Snohomish had large urban growth areas with one name. With new information from the Office of Financial Management, Ecology created subUGAs with the new names.
