Guidelines & Resources

Since 2019, DDOT and non-DDOT entities have incorporated art into the right-of-way through the variety of installations listed below. Structures and markings, including artwork, on the transportation network must be permitted by DDOT. DDOT does not allow structures or markings of any kind on sidewalks or roadways that may interfere with the intended purpose and effectiveness of the transportation network. Below are guidelines and additional resources to assist interested parties in applying for AROW installations.

Asphalt Art Safety Study by Bloomberg Philanthropies

\n

Released in April 2022, this study indicates streets with Asphalt Art have a reduction in crashes. While these projects can improve safety by increasing visibility of pedestrian spaces and crosswalks, the locations with asphalt art showed correlation with reduced crash rates.
